Tri-County Women’s Connection From the Land to your Hands…A Bounty of Healthy Food! Please join us on Wednesday, June 7th for a visit with Dick Mills of 7M Family Farms, a family-owned farming operation with roots that stretch back 100 years. Dick combines organic, open-field farming, greenhouse and hydroponic operations to produce a year-round bounty of pesticide free, non-GMO fruits and vegetables! Hand-picked produce ensures fresh, ripe foods. Dick helps farms across America through their Community Supported Agriculture Program, and developed some of the technology being used today in caring for crops. Born into the business, his life’s desire has been to feed our country in a safe manner using food production guidelines that keep our food free of chemical residue. He stays current with farming trends for seed selection, growing techniques, harvesting, marketing, purchasing, etc. Dick hopes his visit with us leaves us with an appreciation for our local farmers, and an education in making healthy and safe food choices. Dick was born in Cambridge, Ohio on a dairy farm, and raised in Bonita Springs, Florida. He has lived and farmed in many states and countries, and now lives in Georgia. Married to his inspiration, Latrece, they have 5 children and 8 grandchildren, all who share a passion for farming. Our musical performance is Janice Minette who will sing for us. Born and raised in New Jersey, she began entertaining as a ballerina, and singing/playing guitar in recitals. She met mentor pianist, Ernie Scott, studied voice and appeared in showcases with him. She also sang in a country rock band where she met her husband, Don. Janice goes by the name of Lady J, performing a variety of styles. Janice also performs on stage in various productions, and is currently rehearsing for “Man of La Mancha” which will run at the Peacock Performing Arts Center in early June. Janice has lived in Hiawassee since 1989. Next, Susan Schreer Davis tells how “She Lives Empowered as a Prisoner of Hope.” Susan is a singer, songwriter and author who recently published her first book, The Great Undoing and My Journey Home. Widowed young, she raised two boys for almost ten years before a dashing widower won her heart. She has a beautiful voice and, in addition to sharing her story, will sing songs for us that she has written.
