LADIES LUNCHEON: PROJECT CHIMPS--IT’S THEIR TIME TO LIVE! As we welcome fall to the North Georgia mountains, we know it means colorful leaves that we love to look at but hate to rake! Let’s be sure no raking is happening on Wednesday, October 3, because the Tri-County Women’s Connection has planned another interesting and entertaining ladies luncheon just for you and your friends! Chimpanzees are one of the most intriguing animals on the earth and some of them are living very close to us in North Georgia. Project Chimps is a 236-acre sanctuary for chimpanzees retired from research, located in Morganton. Leslie Wade, Project Chimps' Manager of Communications, will provide a glimpse of life inside the sanctuary for the 49 chimpanzees now in residence and describe how they hope to bring another 160 chimps in the coming years. Project Chimps was established in 2014, just prior to the federal government's decision to ban testing on chimpanzees in 2015. The non-profit purchased the former Gorilla Haven property in Morganton and rehabilitated it to accommodate chimpanzees. The first group of chimps - nine females - arrived in September 2016 and have been thriving ever since. Today, the sanctuary is supported by more than 100 volunteers, the majority of whom live in the local community. To learn more about Project Chimps, visit projectchimps.org or follow the organization on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or YouTube. Next in our program, Associate Professor Sauni Rinehart, Loudon, TN will help us find the answer to this age-old dilemma: "To Plan Or Not to Plan...That Is the Question”. She will offer practical suggestions for planning, time management and setting priorities for planners and non-planners. An adjunct instructor for Liberty University’s on-line program and a published author, Sauni will offer her book, “The Best Laid Plans”, for purchase. The venue for this event is the North Georgia Technical College, Building A, Highway 515, Blairsville and our buffet lunch will be catered by the culinary students enrolled at NGTC. Pre-paid reservations are requested. Mail your check payable to TCWC to: Lilly Adams, 21 Holloway Road, Blairsville, GA 30512. Reservation deadline MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17.
