LADIES LUNCHEON: THE MAGIC OF HONEY BEES Did you know that: “Honeybees are the only insect that produces food for man?” And here’s another mind-boggling fact: It takes 1.9 MILLION beehives to pollinate the California almond crop! At our October 2 Tri-County Women’s Connection luncheon, Glen Henderson, President of the Mountain Beekeepers Association, will be our Feature Guest and is bringing a Demonstration Hive so we can see the queen bee at work! Glen will tell us why bees are so important and what we can do about the current situation. Glen grew up in Montana in a military family and is a 20-year U.S. Army veteran. He graduated from the University of Montana with a degree in Geography because he wanted to travel the world. Glen visited Blairsville and decided to move here in 1993 because he loved the hills! He met and married Catherine, a Georgia girl, who didn’t want to shovel snow in Montana! Glen worked as a local farrier for 25 years, but eventually traded horses for bees! In fact, he started keeping bees just for the fun of it, but in 1996, became an “official” beekeeper. A couple of years later, he joined the local bee club and now serves as “President for Life” for the Association. Not only is Glen going to educate us on bees, he is bringing three jars of different types of honey as door prizes! The Mountain Beekeepers Association meets the 1st Tuesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the North Georgia Technical College. Our Guest Speaker is Linda Cloer from Dahlonega, Georgia and she will share how she found the answers to life when she realized her Cinderella dream would no longer come true. Linda is a former model and office manager and currently, is a teacher, speaker, mentor and counselor. Linda and her husband Jerry live in Dahlonega, Georgia. Our luncheon venue is the North Georgia Technical College, Building A, 121 Meeks Avenue (on Hwy 515), Blairsville. The cost is $15 (cash or check) and includes the program, door prizes, and a delicious lunch catered by Amazing Grace Catering & Events.
